Altrad NSG Limited was originally set up in 1971 by three former managers of SGB. The company was originally named Cheshire Scaffold Company Ltd and worked around the Cheshire and Liverpool area mostly for small builders, painting and roofing contractors. The company was based in Manor Lane, Hawarden.

The company was successful and began to grow outside of its normal geographical area and it was decided to rename it - Northern Scaffold Group in 1978. The company moved from Hawarden to the Deeside Industrial Park.

The company continued with its growth and success and in 1993 it diversified its activities from solely scaffolding, into thermal insulation, industrial painting, asbestos removal and cleaning. At this point it was decided to rename the company - NSG Services Group.

By 1998 two of the original owners had retired and the last shareholder sold the company to the German multinational - plettac AG. The company was then renamed plettac nsg plc.

The company remained under the control of plettac until the German Group collapsed in 2003.

The Management Team of plettac nsg in the UK succeeded in an MBO of the company and it was decided to rename the group - NSG UK Ltd in 2003.

In 2007 the management team sold the business to MWB Associates Ltd. Mike Carr was retained as Managing Director and he subsequently appointed Rob Callaghan and Rob Trotter onto the new Board of Directors.

In May 2010 MWB also failed and Mike Carr led the buyout of NSG U.K. Ltd from MWB control.

In May 2011 Mike Carr, Rob Trotter and Rob Callaghan sold NSG U.K. Ltd to a French multi-national - Altrad SA.
